Korçula
Korçula, `capiltal` of the sunny Croatian island
of Korçula is the scenery for the story of
`Palace Ismaelli`
Also known as `Little Dubrovnic`, this 14e
century city is mostly know as the birthplace of
Marco polo.
Thanks to faith and Unesco the city hasn t changed that
much since.
The fortified city is a collection of perfectly preserved and still inhabbited medieval buildings.
The very
narrow but cosy streets are filled with life thanks to the presence of countless
of typical restaurants, terraces and
shops.
As a touristic hotspot, Korçula is mostly know by sailors, the trendier tourists and some
celebrities
such as Roman Abramovic and John Malcovic.
Palace Ismaelli
In the 15e century, two very rich families saved
Korçula from decay,
the Ismaëllis an the Gabriëllis.
They saved buildings and churches and did
buisiness in Dalmatia, Venice and Napoli.
In the centre of town they each build a palace next to each other.
Throughout
the centuries the palaces were rebuild according to the architectural styles
of that time. We can still see influences of
Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque style.
The two families shared the same armour and is still visible on the façade
today.
These days, the Gabriëlli palace houses the Korçula Museum while the
Ismaëlli palace is
devided into several appartments.
The appartment
The appartment is just 100 m? in size, but still it contains 2
large bedrooms,
1 bathroom, a modern kitchen that is perfectly integrated into the
wide stylisch livingroom.
The
complete renovation, completed in 2007, combines the old walls and
authenticity of the old building with all modern
conveniences and luxury.
Of course, a complete new roof is one of those essentials.
The interior and furnishing is so
complete that the appartment is ready to live in.
Even the bottle of champagne in the fridge is waiting to celebrate the
purchase.
But we will let the pictures do the rest of the talking.
